QuickBooks Online (Acc Sync) Error: Not a Valid Product or Service Name (Clone)

Products with long names or new lines/paragraphs will not sync with QuickBooks and will need to be edited.

Full Error: ”A business validation error has occurred while processing your request: Business Validation Error: Not a valid product or service name. Names must have at least one character and cannot include tabs, newlines or ':'.”

 

Explanation

QuickBooks has field requirements for Product names that sync over and will not allow anything over 100 characters or anything that uses a new paragraph format. It can also be rejected due to special characters if all other parameters meet the requirement.

How to Fix:

 
Locate the Product in Settings => Products & Services 
  1. Edit the Product using the three dot menu
  2. Modify the Product Name and Save
  3. Retry the product from the sync error list found in Settings=>Accounting Sync=>Review Errors
  4. Retry the invoice or estimate if needed that was using the product

If there is an invoice or estimate that is utilizing one of these products, you may need to then also update the invoice or estimate with the new product name once you have followed the steps to resolve this error for the product.
