What is the Logic Behind the Search Bar's Results?
The search bar is capable of searching records within the system by various fields and points of data.
![]()
In order of descending (highest to lowest) priority, the following is a list of fields searched through by the system to populate results:
-
Display name
-
First name
-
Last name
-
Company
-
Number
-
Description
-
Address line 1
-
Address line 2
-
Email
-
Home phone
-
Work phone
-
Mobile phone
-
Fax number
-
Zipcode
-
Filename
-
Contact type
- Custom text fields
Depending on the pre-determined priority of this data, the more a search result appears in these fields, the more likely it will appear at the top of the search results.
Example: if the name of a Contact appears in the Last Name, Company, and Display Name fields, these would be prioritized higher than a Contact in which the name only appears in the Last Name and Display Name fields.
Be aware that the search bar does not accept special characters (!@#$%^&-*, etc.) and searches including these (such as a full email address with the @ symbol) will return no results. Instead, only search terms without those characters. For example, type in the first part of the email without the @ symbol.
